Outside Face Lift

We decided it wasn't enough to just remodel the inside but now the outside needed some help. We saw someone who spray painted the outside of their pop-up and liked the way it looked, so now we had to do it as well.

We started by having to take the pre-existing vinyl off. That was a stubborn job! We first tried using a heat gun. We hoped it would just peal off but it was proving really difficult. We ended up buying a rubber wheel that attached to our drill and it came off really nicely.

Deciding on a color was a lot harder then we thought. We took a bold move and spray painted the trailer light blue. I don't know what we were thinking! Not only did it look splotchy but the blue was definitely not the right color. (Sorry, it didn't even deserve a picture.) We landed on a bronze which goes so nicely with nature. Reminds me of all the trees.

That wasn't the end of the paint frustration. Spray painting is tricky and it keep looking splotchy with every coat of paint we did. So glad we have a neighbor who paints jets for a living. We had him come over and teach (or just fix) our splotchy looking trailer. It turned out great.

Tips on spray painting:
  • go in one direction holding the can about a foot away
  • careful to use same speed and consistency when spraying
  • make sure there is no WIND
  • after completing the first coat go over a second time in the opposite direction, this should fill in the color more evenly
It was a royal pain giving the outside a facelift but it does look so much better. We are still on the hunt for new light covers but other then that it looks a lot newer.
